2022 Top of the Class

VALEDICTORIAN

Mary Harvey is the daughter of Dr. Martin and Lisa Harvey. She and her family are active members of First Baptist Church in Collins. She has participated in Key Club, Mu Alpha Theta, Honor Society, Student Council, the LCS music class, and archery. She has a passion for playing the piano and has been the pianist at Bethel United Methodist Church in Collins since January 2021. Mary has also been involved in the Covington County 4-H Shooting Sports program by competing in .22 Rifle since the age of ten. She is a Mississippi Economic Council STAR Student. She has been selected to receive the $28,000 Presidential Scholarship from the University of Alabama and the $1,000 National Alumni Association Scholarship from the University of Alabama. This fall, Mary will attend the University of Alabama. She will major in Communicative Disorders.

 

Salutatorian

Anne Marie Sullivan is the daughter of Dr. William David and Katie Sullivan. She has been an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church, serving as an acolyte and an EYC leader. She is a member of Key Club, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Student Council, and Lionettes.  She earned letters in Girls' soccer, tennis, and basketball. Volunteering is her passion, and she has earned over 200 hours of service in our community through organizations such as The Glory House and South Central Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Junior Auxiliary Crown Club and Future Leaders of Jones County. She will be attending Mississippi State University Honors College this fall. Anne Marie has received a $500 Junior Auxiliary of Laurel Shareholder Scholarship, a $2,000 Colvard Future Leadership Scholarship, a $3,000 Freshman Academic Excellence Scholarship, a $1,000 Key Club Scholarship, and a $1,000 Salutatorian Scholarship. She will be majoring in Kinesiology and hopes to be a Physical Therapist.

 

Historian

Bert Bassi is the son of George and DeeDee Bassi. He and his family are active members of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Laurel. He has participated in Key Club, Quiz Bowl, Mu Alpha Theta, Honor Society, Future Leaders of Jones County, Student Council, Varsity Soccer, and Varsity tennis. He was the captain of the Laurel Christian School Quiz bowl team. He also served as the captain of the varsity soccer team where he won a state championship. Bert was named All-Division his junior and senior year, and he was voted to be on the MAIS All-Star soccer team his senior year. On the tennis court, he helped LCS win two team state championships and won one individual state championship in boys doubles. He has received numerous merit-based scholarships from the University of Mississippi as well as acceptance into the Sally McDonald Barksdale Honors College. In the fall, he plans to attend the University of Mississippi where he will major in Biomedical Engineering with an emphasis on Pre-med.
